Most annoying P & CA Poster: There are WAY too many to mention and I do not want to offend anyone. Would guess, they know who they are.
Favourite Food: MEAT ..Grilled, broiled, fried, baked and bar-b-qued.
Most recent book read: Making Money by : Terry Pratchett. Funnily enough, it was an apt read for the current economic picture here in the states with a sense of humour.
Most recent film seen: Iron Man
WebSite: The Political Spin - The website is still under construction. However, once open to the public the site will be a blogger spot. Almost like Dailykos. A place for opinion diaries to be published and responded to.
Connie you joined P & C A in its inception back on EZBoard nearly 6 years ago and became a much valued contributor to the forum and member of the board staff in your role of admin up until last year. What made you decide to join P & C A and stick around so long?
To be honest? Well, the biggest reason I joined in the first place. Is
Dave Sawyer the owner, creator and or "mastermind" of P & C A. He had an idea for a message board. Very few rules to follow and an openness for discussion. After posting on the MSNBC boards for years, I wanted a place I felt comfortable at. Politics and current affairs became my home. I not only grew my knowledge of world politics, I also made some very strong friendships, kinships with people I never would have had the chance to meet, if it weren't for P & C A.
I stayed because I did not want to see this wonderful website die like so many of the message boards I have watched disappear. I had a vested interest.Dave and I had a vision of a fair website. A place where differing opinions could be hashed out without over moderating. I wanted to see the vision continue and know in my heart anything worth keeping is worth fighting for. I tried to keep P & CA as close to how we started it as possible.
Many posters old and current wonder what you are up to these days. Do you still spend much time online on discussion boards and do you still have a healthy interest in National and International Current Affairs?
My life is pretty much the same as when I spent 16 hours of my day on Politics and Current Affairs.*chuckle* I read as many news articles as my eyes can handle. I blog on Digg as well as Windows Live Spaces.
Until "SirDigalot" gets my new website up, I post or blog where and when I can. As I have done for the past 4 election cycles. I am canvassing and spreading the word of my chosen candidate, which has been Barack Obama from the beginning.
I try to keep up to date on International politics because they are all
intertwined. I want to know who is doing what and how it affects me. I know it's
selfish but at least I know what's going on.
The Presidential Election is only days away. All polls are pointing to an Obama win. Do you think he will do it and more importantly in your view is he the best candidate and why?
He is the best candidate, simple and clear. A lot has been said about experience this election cycle. However, it has been apparent throughout this past 3 months that age does not equate to experience or good judgment as shown by the Palin pick for Vice President. I know his health care plan is/will work.
I am a recipient of the plan he wants to get nationalized. It is affordable. It has saved the life of my youngest child as well as my own. Without it we could not get insurance with pre-existing conditions. Healthcare has been my major issue for the past 12 years and am happy to know that the plan he offers can work!
He has shown he can remain calm in a crisis and we are sure to be tested repeatedly in the future. Seeing how he dealt with the crapping out of Wall St. I am confident he will not freak out or zone out once we face a difficult situation ( flashes back to My pet goat ).
As an American, I have come to learn not to pay attention to polls. As a Chicago Cubs fan, I have learned no win is a guaranteed win. I believe Barack Obama is about to make history in more ways then being the mixed candidate.
The "electoral college" map has not looked this strong for a Democrat EVER, I hesitate to say it but Landslide comes to mind. This election will not be decided weeks after November 4th but will be decided once they get to counting Colorado.
What will you be doing come election night?
After closing the polls in my precinct (and knowing the vote totals) I will report them back to Obama headquarters. I will get all cozy with my computer watching the blogs and of course watching cable. I have a bottle of "Elitist" champagne in my fridge ready for the popping. I might even log into P & CA to watch the live chat for "shits and giggles"
Should Obama prevail, how will you celebrate?
Oh crap. I answered that above in my rambling. I will party like its "1999"?
P & CA has just been revamped and we can't think of a more fitting person to be the first poster to be featured on the Member Spotlight. What do you feel we should do to improve the forum.
Find your way back. You know how there are products on the market they claim to be new and improved? Sometimes 'improving' makes more of a mess up then leaving things that work be. Not sure if that makes sense. In other words, "if it ain't broke , don't fix it".
We originally set up Politics and Current Affairs with very little moderation. I understand with increased membership we had to moderate a bit more. However, I found instead of holding posters responsible for their own musings we became a kindergarten BB of tattling and finger pointing.
So, how to improve? Simple. Find your way back
Is there any chance you may return to P & CA in the future?
Can I have my previous position of Queen Administrator? *L* If I knew we could be like we were in the beginning, I would most definitely return to Politics and Current Affairs. I had such fun, back in the day *chuckle*
Have you any advice for our members on how to deal with trolls or with posters that irritate them.
Yes. My Grandfather told me this 35 years ago. Ignore the ignorant. It is my understanding that P & CA has had an ignore feature for a very long time. It is a pity that more of the members never utilized this option. If it offends thee, remove it from thy sight! P & CA gave users that option. Not many choose to use it.
Do you follow European Politics and do you feel the Bush Administration has damaged America's standing in the world community, particularly with her long standing European allies?
I feel that the world is looking at America with a different set of 'specs'. It is clear to those outside of America that we are at a turning point. Bush 43 may have tarnished the appearance of America. However, the word will not continue to hold us accountable for him as of January 20, 2009. There seems to be a hope spreading. Not only in America. Across the world. Even with the global economic crisis, there is hope that a change in administration also equates a change in policy.
It will be a very challenging process with Putin showing another Iron
Curtain ready to be raised. The middle East in sectarian unrest. Israel and the
rest of the middle east all paranoid. Pakistan is at a boiling point, we have
who in charge in North Korea? These are very tense times and we need to change
the worlds' opinion of our bullish actions in china shops across the globe. We can definitely shore up our image with our allies and perhaps gain a few new ones as well.
What was your favourite subject in school and why?
History. I have always had a love for the subject. I was raised to believe, that those of us who refuse to learn history are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. Perfect example is the current economic crisis.
If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?
Seriously? I'd waste it playing pranks on people!
That is the end of Dave's questions to me. I'd like to add a personal note to the members of Politics and Current Affairs. Most of you through the years have been wonderful to read. Others of you reached out from behind the computer monitor to help myself and my family when times were very tough.
I'd like to say Thank you to all who were there for us. P & CA was a neighbourhood for me. It was my community. A place I could go to and share my opinions as well as every day issues. When the community turned into more of a mob squad, it was time to move on.
I would like to especially thank Lily for all of her efforts on my medical behalf. Not sure if any of you know, but I am a Diabetic and so is Lily. I had NO health insurance when I first met her. We talked privately about my situation. This very sweet woman sent me medicine. She gave me life.
This is part of why P & CA was so important to me. It showed me about human kindness. I started to see it deteriorate on the site and it broke my heart. If P & CA could find its way back to that community spirit. I would happily become an active member again.
Thanks for all of the years of friendship and knowledge.
Do your duty on or before November 4th (you Americans I'm talking to)
VOTE!
Peace to all of you.
Connie
