Is it of any concern to you that some of the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay have been imprisoned for *years* without formal charges being filed, keeping in light that *some* have been released, again after *years* because they were innocent?

Yes. We want to export our very flawed rendition of "democracy" but only those parts that benefit us.

Yes...............my main problem is that so many people do not consider it to be a problem.
It was universally condemned when the fascist powers imprisoned opponents withhout trial but when the Great Democracy did so........it is OK.
When insurgents kidnap people off the street and hold them prisoner........that is bad.
When the US does the same thing..........that is good.

I agree Sarmajor. What I find puzzling though, is that under Bush, anyone in the US or the world can now be picked up in the middle of the night and taken away..indefinately....in secrecy...for any reason the US government or any US government peon makes up....and no one except a few "liberals" has a problem with it....
And these people can be tortured for years and no one cares.
I find it very disturbing that America has accepted one rule by one party and has abandoned a representative government.
I find it disturbing that America cares so little for democracy that they don't demand an accountable and verifyable method of holding elections.
I find it very disturbing that Americans accept the concept of conquering a nation to steal it's natural resources. While letting "friend" countries who really HAVE attacked the US off the hook.
Amerika seemingly has abandoned the principles it was founded on and has taken bully attitude with the world.
Pride comes before the fall.

"Amerika seemingly has abandoned the principles it was founded on ....."
No, not America. Just a few clowns who think they're hot shit at the moment. Things have a way of turning around, however. The pendulum never stops swinging.
The basic core of the population is, and has mostly been, remarkably homogeneous in many respects. The current problem mirrors any number of situations down through history, when the reputation of the good majority has been stained by the misguided - or worse - actions of a few.
The problem comes when people can make statements like (paraphrased) "I saw a movie and now I don't like America." Pretty shallow observation, IMHO.
