Right forum?
Why isn't this news piece all over the American news sites right now? And on TV networks? I haven't seen it reported point blank like this. Sounds like they believe it will be at one of the conventions.
Something big is coming, says CIA director (http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=22&art_id=qw1089863462314U232//url)

Washington - Warnings that terrorists are plotting "something big" against the United States are based on "very, very solid" information, the CIA's acting director said on Wednesday, likening the threat reports to those that preceded the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Now that raises an eyebrow, eh? Were the threat reports before 9/11 that solid and bad? wow
John McLaughlin, the acting CIA director, noted in an interview with National Public Radio that the US had ample warning of an attack before the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington but no specifics on the timing and targets.
"But we did have conviction that something big was coming at us. We have that same conviction now," he said.
"And the reason I say that it is serious is that I think the information I've seen is very, very solid. We have very little doubt about the information we have in terms of its sourcing and its authenticity," he said.
McLaughlin would not comment on the specificity of the intelligence this time, but said the agency has developed much more intelligence on al-Qaeda and its intentions since September 11.
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned last week that "credible reports" indicate al-Qaeda plans to carry out a large scale attack in the US to disrupt the elections.
Ridge said precise knowledge of the time, place and method of attack was lacking, but security is being stepped up at the sites of the Democratic and Republican nominating conventions this summer.
The Democratic Party's national convention is to be held in Boston July 26-29, while President George Bush's Republican Party is to hold its convention in New York August 30-September 2, ahead of the November 2 US presidential election.
Asked whether Americans should cancel vacation plans or stay away from Boston and New York during the conventions, McLaughlin said people should go about their business.
lalala
"But citizens themselves need to keep their eyes open and be alert," he said

Boy those clever "terrorists" really got us dummies by the "balls" haven't they?
Talk crap on cell phones and post same on internet and we borrow and spend another couple of Billion dollars which ultimately ends up down a "rat hole"
Of course, on the other hand, it could just as well be more "bush crap" to keep us scared.
Damned if I know which.

Well, I do hope they are wrong, and if they are right, I hope that they are able to prevent any attack.
History shows it takes luck along with intelligence to stop these things, and unfortunately some will happen no matter what anyone does.
It is sad that we even have to talk about this happening here or in any other country in the world.

Recent history also shows us that the U.S. intelligence apparatus is not to be taken at their word, especially when what they are saying is of benefit to the administration.

But I think that is true of most intelligence. It is more of an art than a science.
Someone tells someone else something and then someoen else has to determine that what they heard is actionable or not.
Risky decisions in any case.
This goes back centuries....
There is no such thing as sound perfect intelligence.
And whose Intelligence agency on this great earth should the Administration trust?
Or should they all be dismantled and thrown to the wind.
Or maybe we should go back to that guy that was in charge of domestic terrorism prevention, Richard Clarke, yeah he prevented a lot, didn't he?
Look, there is plenty of blame to go around when it comes to discerning the terrorist thoughts of others.
And no one, and I mean no one is beyond reproach, IMHO.

I'm sick of this "faulty intelligence" pass-the-buck bullshit.
9-11 happened, to a large degree, because Bush was asleep at the wheel. The intel was there. But Ashcroft didn't even have "terrorism" on his priority list (but "pornography" was), he told the FBI director in the summer of 2001 that he didn't want to hear anything more about terrorist threats, and Bush cut the FBI and CIA's antiterrorism budget prior to 9-11. Then went on vacation.
If there's an "intelligence gap", its between Bush's ears. And nowhere else.

A translation of a Bushite reasoning:
Bush is great because there has been no attacks against America ... so he gets the credit.
On the other hand, 9-11 is not his responsibility. That was Clinton's fault.
On the other hand another big attack is coming but that is .... somebody else's fault too ... because Bush is doing really great ....

I'm also sick of the "no attacks since 9-11" bullshit that conservatives are spinning.
What's the BFD? How many foreign terrorist attacks in the US did we have BEFORE 9-11? What, 8 years earlier, the first WTC attack, was it?
It's like saying, "Bush gets one freebie, 3000 dead, too bad, so bad".

of course me being a big bad terrorist, wanting to hurt mame and kill as many of the infidels as possible, will of course make some form of warning before I launch an attack, and as has already been mentioned I am going to talk about it on cell phones tapped telephones and shout about it in the streets for every person to hear.
needless to say I am going to tell every single person involved in the organisation involved in the "attack" the whole plan, every detail, so they can tell some one else.
and that guy, you know the well fed one, often has dodgy arabic, talks alot on the phone always dissapearing, yeah the one in the brand new mercedes and suit, I am gonna tell him, he looks like all of us who live on the fringe on society and not at all like an infiltrator.
;)
Well.........either way they got their ass covered. If it happens.........see we warned you. If it didn't............see we stopped it :bleh

If we are not attack:
Vote for Bush because he's doing a great job!
If we are attacked:
Vote for Bush because the terrorists don't want you to.

The "corporate press" propagates this ridiculous oxymoronic logic.
A liberal press would be picking such blatant bull apart every day.
Damn diplomacy, feed our MIComplex.
Damn education, keep um scarred.
Promise to protect them, get their vote.
Blame it all, on the “liberal press”.

Fred... thanks for the informative read... It should be blasted on the news every hour! We were thinking of moving back home to NC. On second thought, maybe we should move to Canada.

We're about a 4 hour drive from the BC border. Maybe we should get started now 'fore shit flys sideways.... I'm not kidding. Look.. if one day we wake up and we're in the red zone.. it'll be too dang late. Bet they put the lockdown on the borders too, eh? Maybe we can't get out...

Honestly though, when I hear something like this, I can't help but think of Operation Northwoods.
If you don't know what that is (it's something that isn't taught in American History class) here's a link.
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/jointchiefs_010501.html
Or do a google search to learn more.
Basically, back in the 60's, the Joint Chiefs of Staff went insane and wrote up a plan to stage fake terrorist attacks and kill American citizens in order to provoke a war with Cuba.
However they failed to destroy the internal documents which were eventually found and brought to light many years later.

One step ahead of ya Sue.
I have hidden a small rowboat somewhere along the shores of Lake Erie just in case of such an emergency.
As a bonus I'll get to experience what for some run away slaves was the last leg of their exodus along the underground railway.
:cheers
I kid, I kid... however, now that I think about it... :/
