The Division two promotion race is driving me insane not sure I can handle the play offs again.
Will Bristol City beat Barnsley this afternoon to take things to the last game of the season...or will we bottle it...
Hey Hey :wave Copey,
You found your way here then. I see Swindon didn't do them any favours yesterday capitulating to QPR :jedi
They have to beat Barnsley this afternoon, I hope they do. Otherwise if it goes to the playoffs I can see them bottling it again like they did against Cardiff last year.

"The Robins closed the gap....."
The "ROBINS"? What kind of wussie name is THAT for a sports team? I mean, the Toronto BLUE JAYS is bad enough. Or the Baltimore ORIOLES. Or the St. Louis CARDINALS. A name like "The Robins" might be likely to start a fight in a bar, over here...... :lol

You'd think twice before driving one over an inspection pit here in the UK.

Speaking of inspection pit, what was that hunk of good-looking iron parked outdside your Southampton gaff? I hope it was English. Been very fond of English iron for a long time. Owned a Triumph once. Don't ask what it was, though. You'd laugh. But I did pick up all the good lingo, from the repair manuals. Cars don't have hoods - they have "bonnets". And you don't bolt on a part, you "offer it up...". Quaint. I always kind of liked to read the British manuals.
Damn. I almost forgot. Some of those names. Only in England would you find a car called the "Humber Super Snipe". Saw one in the flesh once. And a damn fine piece of work it was, too.

T'was a Saab 95 Jim. My fourth.
Indeed Val. I was playing hard to get.

Behold the beloved Reliant Robin. Virtually the only British-badged car not owned by the Germans or the Americans. Scourge of baby rabbits who've been told by their mothers that when the big Rooodooodooo comes after them they should look it right between the eyes and put their heads down.
Definitely not to be driven over inspection pits, except for artistic purposes.

:lol :lol :lol
NOW I get it!
All that fine British iron, and you're driving a Swede-mobile? I can't believe it! Oh well - it's all a matter of taste, I guess.
But I have to admit - a friend of mine's dad had a couple of those little 99s - three cylinder, two stroke - and they were quite a piece of work. Doug himself drove a Saab Sonnet, with the little German V-4, and that thing would go practically anywhere, andf never got stuck in the winter. but he was also into Triumphs - Spitfires and TR-6's. I've still got some Spitfire motors and transmissions, myself. As well as some Fiat 124 motors and transmissions.
What I'd like to find are some leads to some British breakers (as I believe you call what we call junkyards over here) that might by remote chance have laying around the Tecalmit fuel injection system set-up offerred on TR-6s - in England, but not over here. Would like to find out if any such animals are still available, and what the price may be. I've tried a number of times to locate British wrecking yards online, but apparently they do not frequent the web. Any leads would be appreciated, or perhaps a point in the right direction, that I might follow up on at my leisure.

There used to be a guy in Germany with a Supermarine Spitfire Merlin engine in his car. The police were interested in him, but they could never catch him for questioning.

Back in the 1970's, over here, Allison aircraft engines - 1710 cubic inch, with supercharger - WWII surplus - could be had quite cheaply, sometiome for one or two thousand dollars. A few guys tried them in draq cars and regular cars, but the engines were designed to run in the 2200 to 2800 RPM band, and didn't have the RPMs for serious speed work. Plus they had a habit of launching their blowers if you didn't have the boost pop-off valve set correctly. An expensive hobby. :lol

Well, the German guy was in good company. Some of the old Auto-Union - forerunner of Audi - Grand Prix cars were big-engined beasts. and if you're a fan of old racing, the name Rudolph Carracciola will be familiar.
Well, 6:30PM here - gotta go eat. But I'll be back.

Wouldn't be the first time a Spitfire had outrun the Germans.

Or out-gunned them! :lol
A side note - last time I was there, about six or seven years ago, the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry - a remarkable place (they even have a whole German U-boat on display. The capture and the trip there are quite a story) - they had a beautiful example of a Supermarine Spitfire hanging from the ceiling in the entry-way. Maybe another poster with more recent experience can confirm whether it's still there or not.

I took a couple of good pictures of it, last time we visited the place, and they turned out perfect.
