I went through this story in my EWRT class and thought it was intersting. After you read the story, rate the following characters from most moral (1) to least moral (5): The woman, the boatman, the lover, the stranger, and the best friend.
There was once a woman who wanted to be with her lover, who was on the other side of a wide river. She noticed a boatman on the shore and asked him if he could take her over to the other side. The boatman said he would if she would have sex with him. She complied.
Once across the river, the woman went to meet with her lover. As she embraced him she said that there is something that she has to tell him. "The boatman," she said, "would only bring me if I had sex with him. So I did." Her lover told her to leave and that he never wanted to see her again.
She left and as she was walking down the road she met a stranger. He asked her why she was upset. She told him the story, and he said, "I am really sorry that that happened to you but there's really no way I can help you."
She continued walking and saw her lover's best friend in the distance. Upon approaching him and telling her story, he said that she could come and live with him. And so she did.
