I also posted this on the Peak Oil Thread but thought it might be interesting to discuss in a more general sense.

I personally believe in the concept of doing what you love and the money will follow.

Today is all we have.

The great cycle rolls on and we do not know what the future can bring to any of us. Smell the coffee, taste the wine, hug your kids, and your lover(s), lie on the grass and stare at the clouds.

What do you really want to do?

Why aren't you doing it?

Subject: No Tomorrow's

No Tomorrow's

The physicist Ludwig Boltzman said:

"The life contest is primarily a competition for available energy."

My son went to work at 9 p.m.

He was murdered at 10 p.m., struck from behind by two teenaged thugs with an aluminum baseball bat; he probably never saw the strikes coming (we can hope....); instantly brain dead - and pronounced formally dead at 7:20 p.m. the next night. Dead at 31. No telling the paintings he may have painted or the Nobel prize winners he may have sired.

For most of us, there are "no tomorrow's"!

With the depletion of energy and other natural resources occurring at the rates they are, 99 year contracts are a relic of a bygone era; 30 year mortgages, too.

In our individual quests for energy, we falsely assume we have the TIME to devote to exploration, development, analysis, judgment, exploitation, and ultimate consumption and enjoyment.

WRONG!

Time is NOT on our side any more (never was, but that’s another story...). Life is a precious, fleeting, serendipitous event; here today, gone tomorrow.

Sex, procreation, birth, death, - mostly acts of random happenstance; lust, greed, innate drives.

The energy depletion Dieoff is a 'personal' event; we will all experience it as individuals, not as groups (per se).

Arguing over Peak Oil’s date?

Forget it; act as though Peak has already happened; don't make plans; make Actions; DO something, even if it’s wrong. But if you value your life, don't let the small stuff get in the way of Doing, and Being, and Experiencing what you want to Get and to Give in Life.

If you are older than say, 20, Peak Oil is a non-issue for you. ‘When’ or 'whether' is irrelevant.

Want to write a symphony? Start today!

Want to learn to cook? Or sail a boat? Do it!

Been eying that gal across the portico? Get with the program!

Like whipping cream, Saffron and Shitake mushrooms in your scrambled eggs? Go for it!

Am I promoting Hedonism? Maybe. I just know that the 'best laid plans of mice and men are sent aft aglae' by thugs, tyrants and politicians who use power, force and violence to take what is yours when you least expect it.

Take an hour; don’t ‘plan’ something; DO something. Don’t procrastinate; ACT. Don't ‘think’, Move! Life IS action. (Not holding meetings and ‘formulating plans’!)

Like feral dogs, heirloom seeds and fighting cock breeding stock: - maybe the "chance interlude in the hay loft" really is what it’s all about!

Those who tilt at the windmills of time-of-peak, ERoEI, chip fab yields and all the rest just ought to get on with it - whatever IT is! Want to live in the hills - DO it! Want to stay in the city - be my guest!

Life is too damn short; there are no guarantees; and the tomorrow's we all live for and the tomorrow's we all use to put off doing today what we should do today - DON’T EXIST!

There are thugs out there who will take your life in a New York minute and not look back. If you cherish life at all, start to live NOW.
