On another thread I expressed how pleased I am to have been given a new, neat gadget for the car, an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer with a remote transmitter. Then I started thinking about some neat other gadgets I've had in the past. One of my favorites was another gift of an electronic horn that would play 76 preprogramed tunes! The original horn wasn't loud enough to be heard very well, so I bought a larger one from Radio Shack that worked great! Later, I installed it in my company truck and my boss loved it too! He was forever embarrassing me by playing it in crowded public places while looking innocent!
I can't be the only gadget freak on this board; what are your favorites?

Anything that fits in my pocket and can go anywhere with me ... and give me an 'edge' wherever I go ... becomes my 'favorite.'
However, that said, I do not like gadgets with hudge instruction books with a 'course' or 'degree' required to operate: such as a palm-pilot or scientific-calculator.

I'm a big fan of highly portable, very utilitarian tools. I regularly carry a Gerber folding tool, a small mag-light, a tiny LED kaychain light, a 3 inch straightedged locking blade knife, a small magnifying glass (just because I like the idea of being able to make a fire as long as the sun is up and it's not too overcast), a set of tiny screwdrivers (one of which is slightly bent so it can serve as a lock-pick), and my cell phone (which has a camera and can also function decently as an audio recording device).

my jacket... i have like 5 or 6 pockets in which i keep, a spare penknife 2 lip balm sticks, 3 lighters and a book of matches, a selection of allergy and headache pills, a small selcetion of band aids(thats the sleeve pocket) 2 pens blue and black ball point 1 pencil (retractable) my sun shades, passport, wallet, spare change (couple of quarters dimes nickles etc) small not pad for taking notes, 2 sets of darts (23gram w/ 3 sets of shafts/flights in each), hat - wooley ( optionally removed in warmer months for extra storage) waterproof flashlight, keys (when not attached ot belt loop) (inside pockets) in the out side pockets i reserve for gloves L + R in respective pockets... receipts from purchases (unless important then put in inside pocket) additional change for easy access...
these pockets also have extra space for a digital camera, my 30-70mm camera lens and or 50 mm lens, spare rolls of film... electrical tape and other mission specific items... (sweets toys etc) this is a normal bomber style jacket...
when fully laden i add an additional 10lbs to my weight (woo hoo 125lbs soaking wet!)
i also carry my folding tool on my tool belt OR in my jacket inside pocket if i do not wear my belt....
oh yes the cell phone also ends up in an indise pockety usually also...
i really miss my jacket in the summer!
occasioanly i take a filofax with me that takes up 1 pocket space so i have to rearrange everything else....
it is like those role playing games i have a limited amount of space to carry things and certain things only fit in certain places :lol
other then my jacket i like tools.... tools are cool.... for the car, for the home, whatever... computer gadgets are fairly passé these days for me... i can do anything with a camera scanner modem and digipad :lol
the wife.. it's a kitchen gadget...
tho car gadgets for me is a close third....
but i am nobody without my jacket...
i was thinking about keeping a spare pack of smokes for the wife, i usually have candy/sweets in the arm for her just in case of a diabetic moment and will also carry the insulin in a dart pack...
i am a walking toolbax :lol now a pocket sized drill would be good and a useful addon.... HMMMMM
i think i will need a bigger jacket...
it is funny i hate going throough ANY security checkpoint wearing my jacket :lol

Diemos, you the King of Gadgets! Diggy is a top contender too! You guys must be a walking nightmare to security types everywhere and I'll bet neither one of you give a damn!
I've just started replacing our roof with a metal roof and it is a two man job so that was a great excuse to buy two 18V cordless drills to drive screws with. Of course no roofer would be complete without new leather gloves, tool pouch and belt, kneepads, and a new extension ladder. We have about 40% of it done now and I expect we will need a few more tools yet. Those cordless drills are truly amazing. We used ours pretty steady for about 10 hours before they ran out of power, then snapped in the spare battery, all for $69.95 @ WalMart!
I too carry a variety of nostrums in my jacket pockets along with a novel and a few other things, but nothing like Diggy!

Something for the kitchen - definitely. I LOVE kitchen electronics and gadgets. I love computer components as well, don't get me wrong - but nothing beats a toaster, an electric can opener, a coffee maker, a microwave, a salad spinner, a cheese grater, a garlic press, etc., etc., so on and so forth... :lol Viva La Kitchen Appliances! w00ty!
