When I came home from camp a couple of weeks ago, I felt lighter, not as fluffy, slim and svelte, so I weighed myself and found I was 8 pounds less than before. Wonderful! Like most North Americans, I weigh a bit too much and am concerned about losing some of it, so I had resolved to get more exercise and eat less, avoid the fat, and cut down on desserts. So now, this is my reward, 8 pounds less in only two weeks! I was really on to something!
Over the next week, I couldn’t resist sneaking onto the scale just to verify my good fortune, and lo and behold, I’d lost another pound! This was getting better and better! On successive days, I was down a bit more and then a nagging little worry started, what if I can’t stop this? Will I waste away to nothing? Now admittedly, I was a long way from that happening, but who knows, it might happen so it’s worth worrying about.
I mentioned this miracle to the wife and then she checked her weight and she was down too! She is pretty secretive about her weight, so I didn’t think too much about it. I went back to camp for two weeks and resolved to continue with my great weight-loss plan. About a week later, the wife mentioned that she had weighed herself again and had lost 4 pounds in the past two days. She thought this must be too good to be true. I suggested that maybe we should change the batteries in the scale. The next day she called back; she had changed the batteries and the scales were reporting her correct weight again. That’s all well and good for her, but I’m sure I lost a lot of weight because I felt so much thinner. When I returned home, I stepped on the scales, and I found that I was indeed much lighter, one pound lighter.
WHO KNOWS HOW SKINNY I WOULD BE TODAY IF WE HADN’T CHANGED THOSE DAMN BATTERIES?
