I haven't had my quota of Gloom and Doom this week, so I thought we needed a poll to see how our members feel about it. So, come early, vote often, and then post your theories here.

I voted for Global Pandemic. I think we have seriously overpopulated this old dirtball and I believe that Nature will eventually assert herself and only the very hardy and lucky will survive.
I think a pretty good case can be made for Global Pandemic, huge populations, radid travel between population centers all over the world to spread disease, and our inability to rapidly deploy effective defenses. It seems to me that we are ripe for a fall.
On the other hand, we could succumb to some catastrophic event such as Yellowstone blowing up and creating a nuclear winter for a few years with a mini ice age afterward. Ahhh, but we do live in interesting times!

"Interesting Times" indeed.
What makes any of the above such a potential disaster is our population.
We can't survive ANY significant climate change, like Global Warming or Cooling. The mass starvation that would result would be catastrophic.
If our population was 1/6 of what it is now (the equivalent of the early 1800s) most of the great problems on this planet would disappear almost overnight.
Unfortunately that "obvious" fact has not escaped TPTB :/
Time will tell where and what the breaking point willbe but unless we can move off planet within 10 years something WILL give.

I voted for "Other". I think the end's gonna come, because they will stop serving ice cream on top of Mom's apple pie!
I must just be a natural optimist- I didn't vote for all of the above.

Nothing will ever set us back that far. Anything capable of doing that will just finish us off I think. Even a hundred years is unlikely IMO.
Global pandemic, for some of the same reasons geezer did, global transportation. Just look at what shipping boats have brought alone. Not to sound like an eco-nut, but I'm going to throw in encroaching on the rain forrest. I strongly believe there are things hidden that have not been disturbed for eons and are now being re-introduced into the world. We've evolved and lost the immunity gene. Then add into the mix that viruses are constantly mutating and we're DOOMED. ;)

Other - while the global pandemic is a good option, I figure that the precipitating cause will be some fool with biogenic weapons who releases those biogenics into the wild, where nature will take over and then we will have a global pandemic. Of course, we could start tinkering with good, old Mother Nature and accidentally create such a "super-bug" that could decimate mankind.
Another option would be a fool with an SEMP device which gets detonated over any, several or all the major land masses. Picture a world based on electricity, unable to use electricity. Maybe not a millenium setback, but it could easily bring on any number of related problems, including augmentnig disease and famine.

Nothing is going to happen.
Which is a bit boring I suppose, but thats the way I see it.
Yeah, actually I thought the same, but then the pssimism got to me and I just picked one of them as if we had no alternative.
