Have you noticed a great increase in speed and performance on Politics & Current Affairs after the move to the new server which took place Friday Evening.

Another postive evolutionary step, a new plateau reached. Onward and upward, gentlemen - and ladies. :cheers

A dial up can only move so fast.....

and people still sngger at me for designing web sites to cater for dial up users....

why would you want to design for dial up users?

well duhhh coz there are still many more people who dial up then have broadband!

and i know a dial up user does not appreciate a 400k flash intro and more graphics then you can throw a sheep at :lol

Thank you thank you thank you!

I notice a different in page loading speed between the World and political forums, is it because of the flag and eagle graphics?

I would imagine if you are on dial up the US Forum would be slightly slower due to constraints on your connection and the fact you have to download the background.

For me the server is flying, but I am on broadband :bleh

I have broadband here at the office, and the pages are loading really fast today (thank you). :cheers

At home I have dial up and some days it pays to have a pack of cigarettes handy while you wait.....

even thoug the BG on the US forum is big it is only 93k ( very low quality) i try my best to strike a balance between looks and speed, sometimes though, you just have to make something big...
there are more graphics on these forums,
also the different forum styles are a hack mod, which measn when the forum loads it loads a new configuration file a new Style sheet file and al lthe graphics and text...

the X-Files would probably be as slow too it is hard to tell sometimes working in broadband, and also working on a large screen.... i sometimes dial up using my laptop to see what the end result is....

i am a caring web designer :lol
what i think makes me different from many other designers is the fact i am also a network engineer, and also was stuck with a 28.8 modem for so long in the UK with a very slow computer!

So overall, te general concensus is that it is quicker. It is much quicker for me on broadband that is for sure :)

I'm not sure if you had switched when I signed up Daavros but the site is lightning quick for me. I do however have a very quick overclocked custom built (By me) rig and broadband.
